Guilford Rotary is not the only Rotary Club in Greensboro. We are, however, the only "medium" size club with a luncheon meeting. Our size (65) gives us the possibility of being able to know the name of and have fellowship with each club member but not see the same faces every week. It gives us the opportunity to have speakers who are interesting, educational, and fun. That is what our hour long meetings are like. I believe that is the major reason so many members from other local clubs come to Guilford Rotary to "make up" meetings which they missed at their own clubs.
While the majority of our civic efforts are to provide educational opportunities for students who would not ordinarily qualify for scholarships beyond high school, we are also actively engaged in helping provide food and shelter for folks without the comforts of home, supplying goods and resources for those who are seeking a more positive environment for their children and themselves, and helping high school students at Western Guilford to express their desires to be of service to their community.
Internationally, we have provided the resources to allow young woman in India to pursue their educational dreams, we have provided money for small business loans to allow people whose businesses have been ravaged by earthquake, floods and landslides to regain their independence and dignity. Both locally and internationally our members have been active in presenting positive influences for character education through essay and speech contests.
